A Close Shave
It finally happened. I’d been avoiding it for a few weeks now. No longer! I taught Mason how to shave today. Fuck I’m getting old.

Smart phones are a pretty personal thing. Everyone likes what they like, certain features are a must, or a deal-breaker. I’m no different. So I bought a Motorola phone 4 phones ago. A co-worker was singing their praises and making fun of me for not having one, so I succumbed to pressure and bought one. It was the Moto g6 and I loved it! I used it until it basically stopped being functional, which was only about 2 years sadly. The only gripe I had with that phone was the placement of the fingerprint sensor. It was on the only physical button on the front of the phone which was also the Home button. It worked well enough, but the placement was less than ideal. ...
Easter Sunday. Nice day. Had Effie’s old man over for dinner. He asked me, completely fucking randomly, as I was taking my dirty dinner plate to the kitchen if I still had my appendix. WTF???? So that’s a thing that hapened. Other than that, the day was good. Left work at noon, took a nap and had a fight with Susie over nothing. Sweet! Since it’s Easter and Spring, a quick sports update. Flyers sucks. Phillies suck. Philly sports just seems to suck in general. ...
I love North Carolina, especially The Outer Banks. I haven’t been there in forever. I am, however, going to South Carolina in June. I can’t wait. I’m almost salivating at the thought. So in honor of the most revered vacation destination, I offer you this picture.
Tonight Susie won Mario Party. She was unreasonably excited! #LifeGoals
I’ve done it. I’ve canceled my last server from Hetzner and moved to Netcup. The ole H sent out an email saying they’re raising prices on auction servers due to increased energy prices in Germany. So I was looking at an increase of almost 3 Euro. I mean it’s not a lot of money, but still. I’m sort of sad, I’ve had a server with Hetzner for over a year and a half and never had a single issue. I asked the guys over at Hostballs and got all positive feedback about Netcup, so hopefully I won’t have any regrets! ...
Yesterday we picked up Jameson from an extended visit with his father, whom had plotted and planned this long weekend after he was informed that Jameson would be going to preschool 5 day per week after the first of the year. His father very quickly hatched the plan to have the long weekend fearing lost time with his son. On the ride home he asked us twice if we felt good. Strange, but he repeats a lot of strange things, so not really out of character. Then this morning the father calls to inform us of his wife’s positive Covid test. ...
Old dog here. Just learned a new trick! Found out today that you can use systemd to mount NFS shares. It was easy. I have a network-wide downloads folder shared to 3 computers. I disabled the NFS mount in fstab, enabled it in systemd and did an fstab bind to put it where it was with the NFS mount. Neat!
This is the first Christmas that our bleneded family has lived under the same roof. I’ve been stessing a little bit. I’m not usually the spiritual type, but tonight felt a little different. At about 12:30 I felt like I should go outside, and I did, only to find it was snowing. Not only was Christmas my mom’s favorite holiday, she also loved snow on the day. So I take it as a sign that I’m doing things the right way when I go outside and see snow on Christmas Eve when I’ve recently made some family moves with regard to Susie and Jameson. It feels really nice deep down in the soul. ...
Back in November I decided to move away from Ghost, and in doing so experimented with Nextjs. I liked the look and feel, but it was super slow to respond, as I was running in develop mode, because I couldn’t get build to work; it just kept throwing errors. So I’m back again today, happily nestled up with Hugo. I think this might be where I stay for the foreseeable future. I had some hiccups along the way, but today I persevered and the ol’ blog is up and running, fast and smooth! ...
