So there’s a very distinct feeling, one I only get once per year. And today was that day. After spending the day at the beach there’s no feeling quite like having a beer buzz and that crispy, sun-burnt skin. That’s pure vacation mode for me. No greater feeling. It’s one of the best things in the world.
It’s been almost a month since I joined Big Woody’s and I wanted to put down some thoughts. First, my expectations were mostly met in the game aspect. However, I thought I would play 1st base and that happened for exactly 2 innings. After which I transitioned to pitcher and to my surprise I’ve done fairly well, having never pitched anything other than T-Ball and Little League Minors. Turns out, I’m not so shabby....
So. We joined a softball team! I secretly always want to be on a softball team. It takes me back to my early teens when I would travel around with Tom’s (my Big Brother) team on Saturdays. We’re play for Big Woodys (hilarious) in a 4 team Y league. We had our first game on June 13 and we won 13-9. I played 1st and pitched, 2 innings of each. Susie caught the whole game....
Racist, murderous pig Derek Chauvin was stabbed 22 times in prison. On Black Friday. Fucking perfect! The hero of our story says the attack “was symbolic with the Black Lives Matter movement and the ‘Black Hand’ symbol associated with the Mexican Mafia criminal organizations.” Give him a Medal of Valor.
Mason has been benched since we came back from Myrtle Beach by his awesome Legion coach. He’s done that same bullshit all 3 years Mason has played Legion ball. Well, in a marathon game this afternoon that same coach ran out of pitchers and had to put Mason on the mound. Now, Mason ain’t no pitcher, but he pitched a three inning no-hitter, with 3 K’s and helped the team win to stay undefeated in the Regionals Tournament....
Susie had her surgery today. Evrything went amazingly well. We were the first “case” so we had to check in at 6. They wheeled ger out at 7:30, the Surgeon called me at 8:22 to report a perfectly successful procedure, and she was back in the room by 10. She was sleepy and didn’t remember much from the time they brought her back until the time we left, which was around noon....
Tonight Susie won Mario Party. She was unreasonably excited! #LifeGoals
This is the first Christmas that our bleneded family has lived under the same roof. I’ve been stessing a little bit. I’m not usually the spiritual type, but tonight felt a little different. At about 12:30 I felt like I should go outside, and I did, only to find it was snowing. Not only was Christmas my mom’s favorite holiday, she also loved snow on the day. So I take it as a sign that I’m doing things the right way when I go outside and see snow on Christmas Eve when I’ve recently made some family moves with regard to Susie and Jameson....
Here it is! The best time of year! The Holiday Season! So I’m not a huge holidays person. Christmas was my mom’s favorite holiday. She went all out with decorating, baking, music. The works. And after she died it was always a hard time for me. When Mason was little, and he believed, it was easier. I enjoyed the season. But then he turned into a teenager and the spirit vanished!...
It’s that fabulous time of the year again. Spring. And with Spring comes Baseball! The big leagues are playing, fans are back in most stadiums in some capacity, and Mason is playing too! Very much playing. On 4 teams! So the schedule is pretty hectic, and it seems like all I’m doing is driving to this practice, or that game, or some other field. But I love it. Which Susie loves to remind when I start to complain about all the running....
